A meet recap - WW vs. Twin Farms

Our first dual meet of the season was an away meet at Twin Farms. The meet got off to a great start with Bruce Barboza taking 1st place in the 100 12 & under IM. This would be a recurring theme for Bruce, as he turned in many outstanding performances en route to winning all of his individual and relay events. The 12 & under girls 100 IM saw strong swims from Lena Bossler, Chrissy Wasel, and Mary Kate Wasel as they faced strong competition from the 11-12 girls from Twin Farms.

Things really got rolling with the open medley relays. Both the boys and the girls took first in their respective relays. The girls’ medley was highlighted by a great anchor swim by Annie Warner to secure the victory. As we started the freestyle events, the 8 & unders kept the momentum going, with Anthony Hill and Sarah Marcolin each taking first place in 25 free, and both of them posting times close to the All-Star times. A few other swims stood out due to the tremendous improvement shown since Time Trials: Matthias Barish, Justin Davis, and Christine Welton all had improvements of over 6 seconds, and Avery Miller, Joseph Moynihan, Rebecca Whelton, Therese McGovern, and Tali Zambrano all posted improvements of over 3 seconds. Our 8 & unders were outstanding all morning at the meet, and their hard work in practice is showing up in our meet performance.

In 9-10 freestyle, Matthew Ourand and Annie Marcolin posted impressive drops in time. Our 9-10 boys turned in a 2-3-4-5 finish, and also featured big time drops for Marcello Beatley and Gabriel Morales. Our 13-14 boys followed that with an incredible showing, taking 6 of the top 7 spots in their event. Gabriel Wilson and Francis Rowedder posted big time improvements, and Russell Sangster won the first of the 3 events that would he would capture during the meet. Katie English, Haley O’Brien, and Alex Wasel paced the 13-14 girls with 1-3-4 finish, again showing big improvements from their times at Time Trials.

The 11-12 boys showed their depth in posting a 1-2-3-5-6 finish. Mickey Van Gieson dropped over 5 seconds on the way to his second place finish, and James Hill finished strong to grab fifth place and post a nearly 2 second drop in time. Lena Bossler raced to a third-place finish against strong competition for the 11-12 girls, while Gianna D’Avella and Ashley Jeffers had strong showings with time improvements of nearly 6 and 4 seconds respectively. The 15-18 boys were paced by the 1-2 finish of Antonio Deshields and Paul Rowedder, and the 15-18 girls ran a clean sweep with a 1-2-3-4 finish for Taylor Swift, Monica Claro, Caroline Argyros, and Annie Warner. Joseph Malusky showed his progression with a drop of over 6 seconds, featuring an outstanding last 25 to touch out the swimmer next to him, and David Malusky and Paul Wasel each posted improvements of about five seconds in their swims.

Our showing in the freestyle events was outstanding and really set the tone for the rest of the meet. We jumped out to a 228 – 181 lead at halftime, and extended our lead in the second half to score a victory. While I would love to recap every event, this post is already running very long, so I will wrap it up with a few additional recognitions.
